Euro giants renew interest in Man Utd star who is surplus to requirements at Old Trafford
AC Milan are positioning themselves to sign Victor Lindelof from Manchester United on a free transfer this summer, Calciomercato reports.
The Swedish centre back is approaching the end of his contract at Old Trafford and is set to leave the club this summer.
Lindelof has been on the fringes this season, but thanks to United’s injury issues in the rearguard, he has been afforded 21 appearances across all competitions.
Thirteen of those have come in the Premier League although he has only been named in the starting line up four times.
Lindelof was expected to leave United last season, but he signed a new contract to stretch his spell at the club to eight years.
He is far from a legend and not remotely close to a cult hero, but he has been a loyal servant of the Red Devils for nearly a decade.
United are planning a massive rebuild this summer.
After enduring their worst-ever Premier League campaign, Sir Jim Ratcliffe and co are expected to back Ruben Amorim heavily in the transfer market.
Ideally, United will need to ship off their deadwood to make room for fresh recruits so a number of players are on the chopping block.
Lindelof could be the first through the exit. At the moment, United have no plans of keeping him any further, and Milan are looking to pounce.
The Rosonerri are seriously interested in bringing in the 30-year-old. They see him as a valuable addition for his experience and leadership.
They’re not the only ones in the running, but the Serie A giants are hoping to beat the competition by laying the groundwork early.
Lindelof joined United during the Jose Mourinho era back in 2017. There were rumours of a potential reunion at Fenerbache, but it never materialised.
He has gone on to make nearly 300 appearances for the club, even though injuries and managerial changes reduced his involvement over the years.
United are looking to bolster their backline with at least one new centre-back.
With Matthijs de Ligt and Leny Yoro already cementing their places, Milan are all clear to sign Lindelof on a free transfer.
