Maxime Esteve mentions Tottenham twice amid transfer rumours
Maxime Esteve, who is about to get his first taste of Premier League football with Burnley next season, has made an interesting admission about Tottenham Hotspur.
Tottenham secured a multi-million boost from Burnley’s promotion to the Premier League as it meant that the Clarets’ obligatory option to buy Marcus Edwards was triggered, with the North London club having a 35 per cent sell-on clause on the winger.
Maxime Esteve is another player that Scott Parker’s men signed on loan back in February, and they have since activated the option to buy him for €12m (£10.2m).
The centre-back, who will get his first taste of Premier League football next season, has now made a very interesting revelation about Tottenham and one of the club’s defenders.
Maxime Esteve has a soft spot for Tottenham
The 22-year-old was speaking to Foot Mercato after helping the Clarets bounce straight back up to the top-flight, with Parker’s men losing out on the Championship title to Leeds on goal difference despite picking up 100 points.
Esteve revealed in the interview that he loved watching Gareth Bale playing for Tottenham while growing up and also confessed his dream of joining one of the big six clubs in the Premier League.
When asked what his dream move is, the Frenchman said: “I’ve never really been a fan of a club when I was a kid, I was more a fan of some players, but not a fan of a club.
“Just me, I dreamed of England really when I was a kid, I watched that, almost that on TV. My favourite player was Gareth Bale when he played in Tottenham at the time.
“Because when I was a kid, I was a left-wing, left-hand lateral wingman. My dream is more to play for a top 6 club in England. But I don’t have a club where I’ll tell you, my dream is to go there.”
Esteve admits he is a big fan of Tottenham defender
The Burnley man named Micky van de Ven as his favourite player in the Premier League and admitted that he tries to model his game around the Dutchman’s since he possesses similar attributes.
Ironically, Tottenham were linked with Maxime Esteve in December as a potential left-sided back-up to Van de Ven himself.
When asked to name the player he admires the most in the English top flight, Esteve responded: “There’s a player I love very much in the Premier League, not all the earth talking about him, it’s Micky van de Ven, the centre of Tottenham.
“He goes very fast, and I like him, because I have the impression that I have a bit of the same speed qualities, even if he goes much faster.
“I’m inspired by him because he’s a player who has about the same profile as me. I’m really trying to look at left-handed centres, because there’s a little less, it’s a little bit rarer.”
