52-goal hitman has told Amorim he will join Man Utd this summer on one condition

0 3

Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres has told Ruben Amorim he would consider joining Manchester United only if he is guaranteed Champions League football, according to The Telegraph.

The Sweden international hitman is expected to prioritise Arsenal over the Red Devils if he leaves the Portuguese top-flight club this summer.

Man United are currently 15th in the Premier League table after 35 games but could be playing in the elite European competition next season if they win the Europa League.

It will boost their chances in the pursuit of Gyokeres and other targets, but it is believed Arsenal are his most likely destination should he leave Sporting.

The Man United head coach and the 26-year-old have a good relationship and a reunion has been mooted since the Portuguese swapped Sporting for the Old Trafford club last December.

Amorim has watched his attackers struggle so far this term and he could do with Gyokeres’ goals, with 52 to his name in 49 appearances this season after he notched 43 goals last season.

Signing such a striking powerhouse will be huge for the Red Devils, and they have to win the Europa League to give themselves a chance, no matter how slim it is.

They defeated Athletic Bilbao 3-0 in the first-leg of the semi-finals of the competition away from home last week and will fancy their chances of progressing to the final tonight at the end of the second-leg.

Should they get the job done in the coming hours as expected, Man United will book a spot to likely face Tottenham Hotspur in the final after the North London club won 3-1 against Bodoe/Glimt last week.

Gyokeres could be the answer to their struggles and Amorim has to do everything it takes to bring his former player to the Theatre of Dreams this summer.

The Portuguese boss needs to get it right in the transfer window if his first full season in charge of Man United is to go as planned, and strengthening his attack will be crucial to how 2025-26 goes for his team.
