Celtics Champion Destroys Boston After Horrendous Game 2 Loss
The Celtics followed a familiar script Wednesday night, and now, their backs are against the wall.
Boston, much like in Monday night’s Game 1, blew a 20-point second-half lead against New York and ultimately lost at TD Garden. The C’s once again shot 25% from beyond the arc, but Wednesday’s performance was even worse. Jayson Tatum scored a season-low 13 points, Jaylen Brown committed six turnovers and Joe Mazzulla made a series of questionable decisions in crunch time.
The abysmal showing prompted 2008 NBA champion Kendrick Perkins to take aim at his former team after it fell into an 0-2 series hole.
“Joe, Tatum, Brown and the Celtics need their ass whipped!!! Another embarrassing performance at home,” Perkins posted to X.
The series is far from over, and the reigning NBA champions should not be counted out. That said, Boston had a golden opportunity to take a stranglehold of the best-of-seven set, but it’s now being forced to tap into a level of resiliency that was never really required at any point in its 2024 championship run.
We’ll see what Mazzulla’s side is really made of Saturday afternoon when the longtime rivals meet for Game 3 at Madison Square Garden.
