Premier League manager is open to taking Tottenham job if Ange Postecoglou goes
Marco Silva could be edging closer to the Tottenham dugout, with fresh reports suggesting he would be open to a move if the club parts ways with Ange Postecoglou this summer.
Tottenham Hotspur’s 2024/25 season has been a difficult one, with the Lilywhites currently sitting 16th on the Premier League table.
This has led to rife speculation about Ange Postecoglou’s future, with several reports stating that the Australian’s position at the club has been all but decided, as Tottenham are expected to part ways with Postecoglou this summer.
Several names have been tipped to replace Postecoglou in the Spurs dugout, with Thomas Frank, Andoni Iraola, Marco Silva and Oliver Glasner amongst the favourites.
Tottenham manager race shifts as Marco Silva emerges
Of the aforementioned names, Andoni Iraola was said to be the frontrunner for the Tottenham job, but things have since changed, as the Bournemouth manager looks set to extend his stay on the south coast.
As Spurs continue their search, fresh reports from Football Insider now state that Fulham’s Marco Silva is open to taking over at Tottenham this summer if Ange Postecoglou is sacked.
Daniel Levy is said to be an admirer of the Portuguese manager, given that he has led Fulham into a battle to qualify for Europe in the closing stages of the season.
The increased likelihood of Iraola extending his stay at Bournemouth has now opened the door for Silva, who has been heavily linked with the Tottenham job, and there is an expectation that the Fulham boss would accept an offer from Spurs if one arrived.
His current contract at Craven Cottage is set to expire in 2026, leading to the possibility that he could jump ship early if Fulham do not extend his contract.
Spurs still considering Ange Postecoglou if Europa League is won
While Marco Silva is now being tipped to replace Ange Postecoglou in the Tottenham dugout, it has also been revealed that there is a chance that Postecoglou remains in charge of Spurs next season.
With the Lilywhites still in the Europa League and with a shot at winning the competition altogether, it has been reported that if Postecoglou gets his hands on that trophy, then Spurs would be happy to keep him for another season.
At the moment, Tottenham are set to take on Norwegian side Bodo/Glimt in the second leg of the semi-finals of the competition, and they would back themselves to progress to the finals, as they have a two-goal advantage.
Should they get past Glimt, an all-English final could be on the cards, as Manchester United are in pole position to eliminate Athletic Bilbao, with the Red Devils holding a three-goal advantage going into the second leg at Old Trafford.
Winning the Europa League would be no easy task, but with his job on the line, Postecoglou has to find a way to get a result in his remaining matches.
