Tottenham handed major boost ahead of potential Europa League final

0 2

Tottenham Hotspur have been handed a major fixture scheduling boost ahead of a potential Europa League final vs Manchester United.

Tottenham Hotspur would be hoping their European run can continue for much longer this season, with Spurs finding themselves deep in the Europa League.

As it stands, the Lilywhites would need to do the business once more when they travel to Norway to take on Bodo/Glimt for the second leg of their semi-final Europa League clash.

Spurs have a two-goal advantage to take to the north of the Arctic Circle, but Glimt would be eager to cause yet another European upset when Ange Postecoglou’s side come visiting.

Aston Villa vs Tottenham fixture to be rescheduled

Should Spurs beat the Norwegian side, an all-English Europa League final could be on the cards, after Manchester United put themselves in pole position to make the final, having beaten Athletic Bilbao 3-0 at San Mames in the first leg.

Tottenham are no strangers to playing an all-English final, with the Lilywhites facing Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League final back in 2019.

Now, according to Matt Law of the Daily Telegraph, Tottenham are set to be handed a major scheduling boost ahead of a potential final with Manchester United.

The journalist has revealed that Aston Villa v Spurs is set to be moved to Friday 16 May, with a 7.30pm kick-off.

This means that Spurs and Manchester United will have the same preparation time for a Europa League final should they both get there. The Premier League’s announcement is expected today.

Law took to X to write: “Aston Villa v Spurs to be moved to Friday May 16, 7.30pm kick off. That means Spurs and Man Utd will have same preparation time for a Europa League final should they both get there. PL announcement expected today.”

Tottenham need to win the Europa League to save their season

Winning the Europa League this season would be massive for the Lilywhites, as it would allow them to compete in the UEFA Champions League next season.

The prize money earned from being in Europe’s premier competition would also allow Tottenham to have more financial muscle to flex in the summer window, as they look to strengthen their squad.

Ange Postecoglou is very much aware that his future at Spurs now hinges on him delivering European glory – failure to win the competition would see him sacked at Tottenham.

With Tottenham so close to a final, their mini injury crisis now means that they would have to win the competition without key stars including James Maddison and Lucas Bergvall.

It is all or nothing now for Spurs, and the hope is that they can rewrite history and possibly win an all-English final after they failed to do so back in 2019 following Champions League heartbreak against Liverpool.
