Tottenham told to sign Premier League free agent over Mathys Tel

0 6

Jamie O’Hara has made a bold claim, stating that Spurs should sign an out-of-contract Premier League striker instead of Mathys Tel this summer.

Tottenham Hotspur are enduring a dismal Premier League campaign, with Ange Postecoglou’s side currently languishing in 16th place in the table.

The Lilywhites will be hoping for a drastic improvement next season, and one way to achieve that would be by making smart additions to strengthen their squad.

If Tottenham fail to win the Europa League, their financial power in the transfer market will take a hit, but the free agent market presents an opportunity the club could explore.

Jamie O’Hara wants Tottenham to sign free agent Jamie Vardy

There are several top players set to become free agents this summer, and we have identified five free agents who could improve Tottenham Hotspur if they were to make the move to north London.

A player like Jonathan Tah would be a solid addition at the back, especially if Cristian Romero were to leave Spurs.

However, former Tottenham midfielder Jamie O’Hara believes that Jamie Vardy, who is expected to leave Leicester City at the end of the season, would also be a good addition to the Tottenham squad.

The pundit has even suggested that Tottenham should consider signing the veteran forward. Speaking on talkSport, O’Hara said: “I think he is not going to be short of suitors, genuinely.

“He has scored eight Premier League goals this season in a terrible Leicester side. He has played a lot of football. He still looks sharp, looks fit, he is still quick, it does not look like he is slowing down.

“I am putting it out there, he is better than Mathys Tel and Odobert at Tottenham.

“I would have him at Tottenham. I would. Not to play every week, but as a backup to Solanke. Who is our backup? We have not got anyone.”

Spurs target Dominic Calvert-Lewin as free agent after Everton contract rejection

Jamie Vardy is a Premier League icon, and it seems rather unfair to compare a player of his stature with youngsters who are still developing and trying to find their feet in the top flight.

Wilson Odobert has struggled this season due to injuries, but he has shown glimpses of quality, including a few standout performances.

Mathys Tel has also had moments where his talent has been on display, but consistency has been a major issue for him at Tottenham.

Given Vardy’s age, it remains unlikely that the club would seriously consider moving for the English forward.

However, Tottenham have been linked with Dominic Calvert-Lewin of Everton, whose contract is also set to expire this summer. If the club are in desperate need of a bargain, Calvert-Lewin appears to be a much safer bet.
