Man Utd tell Chelsea to 'stump up' £65m to sign 11-goal star - report

0 4

Manchester United could do business with Chelsea when the transfer window reopens this summer, according to Daily Star.

The Red Devils are preparing for a busy summer transfer window. A spending spree could depend on multiple players heading for the exit door.

Antony and Marcus Rashford are poised to depart, and Daily Star claim that Alejandro Garnacho could also leave the club.

Chelsea were hot on the trail of the Argentine last winter but could not agree on a potential deal.

However, the London giants retain a ‘strong interest’ in the 20-year-old and are preparing a fresh approach at the end of the campaign.

Garnacho will reportedly want assurances of a big role under manager Enzo Maresca, considering the vast number of wide players at the Blues.

Meanwhile, United are unlikely to sanction Garnacho’s exit on the cheap, and Chelsea will need to ‘stump up’ at least £65 million to land him.

United eyeing pure profit from Garnacho sale

Manager Ruben Amorim dropped the Argentina international for the Manchester derby in December, but he has since redeemed himself.

Garnacho was actively linked with an exit during the last transfer window. Chelsea and Napoli were keen, but a move did not materialise before the deadline.

However, the club have not ruled out his departure. The Athletic journalist David Ornstein recently said that it is highly possible that the winger could depart.

Despite his inconsistency, Garnacho has accumulated 11 goals and 10 assists this campaign. Out of 21 goal contributions, eight have come in the league.

Much more is expected from a player with immense potential. In our view, United are right to demand a hefty fee to sanction his sale to a direct league rival.

If United qualify for the Champions League by winning the Europa League, they should be in a strong position to hold out for a big fee. It could be negotiable if they don’t.

The Red Devils need more headroom under Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) to spend big this summer. Garnacho would provide pure profit as a club graduate.

We believe there is a realistic possibility that Garnacho will head for the exit door for the same reason.

Kobbie Mainoo’s sale would also help in terms of PSR, but the club are growingly optimistic that he will commit to a new long-term contract to end speculation.
