Ange Postecoglou reveals what he always makes Pedro Porro do in training

0 2

Ange Postecoglou has revealed that he and his coaching staff have been working on one specific aspect of Pedro Porro’s game in an effort to maximise the right-back’s attacking output.

While a lot has been said about Trent Alexander-Arnold’s unique role at Liverpool over the years, Tottenham Hotspur have their own version of a playmaking right-back in Pedro Porro.

The 25-year-old continues to regularly contribute in the final third and has managed 12 goal contributions so far this season, which is a tally most midfielders would be over the moon with.

Across his Spurs career, Porro has 30 goal contributions (10 goals and 20 assists) in 101 appearances for the Lilywhites, which shows that he has consistently been one of the best attacking full-backs in world football.

Ange Postecoglou reveals what Porro has been working on in Spurs training

The Spain international showed exactly why he is so threatening in the first leg against Bodo/Glimt, setting up Tottenham’s second goal with an outstanding aerial through ball for James Maddison.

Postecoglou has revealed that Porro is not popping up in those areas by accident, explaining that the Tottenham coaches are working hard to ensure he gets into the right positions to have an impact going forward.

When asked about the luxury of having a playmaker at right-back, the Spurs boss said (via Football.London): “Really important and it’s something we’re continually working on to get him on the ball in more key areas and also work on his positioning a little bit as well.

“He does have such quality with his ability to hit the longer pass, but also the quality of his crosses, every time he puts the ball in the box, whether that’s a set piece or just a cross in general, it causes opposition problems.”

Postecoglou praises Pedro Porro’s ‘durability’ for Tottenham

It has been another season where Tottenham have had to deal with unprecedented injury setbacks, with players dropping like flies throughout the campaign.

Postecoglou pointed out that Porro’s ability to remain fit all through the chaos has been a huge asset for the Lilywhites.

The Australian continued about the right-back: “He’s played more than anyone else this year. He’s been unbelievable for us. Not just in his durability, which has been important because with so many players going down, we’ve needed at least a few to be durable like he has, but also the quality he’s shown.”
