Ange Postecoglou explains how Tottenham can combat artificial pitch at Bodo/Glimt

0 7

Ange Postecoglou is confident that his Tottenham Hotspur side can cope with the challenge of playing on an artificial pitch at Bodo/Glimt next week, explaining what his side should be focused on heading into the second leg.

Tottenham Hotspur needed to take a healthy lead into the second leg of the Europa League semifinal, given Bodo/Glimt’s impressive record at home in the competition.

The Norwegian club have their home record to thank for getting this far in the competition, having turned over Olympiacos and Lazio 3-0 and 2-0 respectively in the previous two rounds.

One of the reasons they are a different animal at home is down to the fact that they play on an artificial pitch, with their home stadium, Aspmyra Stadion, located just north of the Arctic Circle.

Ange Postecoglou wants more of the same from Tottenham in the second leg

Postecoglou knows the challenge that lies ahead for his side, having played at the Aspmyra Stadion with his Celtic side back in 2022 in the Europa Conference League, with the Scottish side being turned over 3-1 in that game by Bodo/Glimt.

However, rather than stressing on any lessons from that game, the Australian insists that Spurs only have to think about replicating the discipline and organisation they showed in the first leg to book a place in the final.

When asked about the challenge of playing on an artificial surface in Norway, Postecoglou told Football.London: “Yeah, look it is on artificial grass but it’s still a game of football. I’ve been there with Celtic, I know the experience and what is important for us is we need to replicate what we did today.

“Irrespective of the surface, if we’re as disciplined and as organised as we were today, with and without the ball, it won’t matter what the surface is, I think it will make it really difficult for us to be stopped.”

Pundit urges Postecoglou to use a strange tactic in the second leg

There has been a lot said and written about the challenge of playing Bod/Glimt on astroturf, and one pundit had a peculiar piece of advice to Postecoglou last month.

Carlton Cole urged Tottenham to play a team of academy youngsters at Bodo/Glimt, insisting that they would be able to move more easily on an artificial pitch than the senior players.

However, it seems extremely unlikely that Postecoglou is going to risk dropping his senior men for what is arguably the biggest game of his managerial career.
