Man United’s move for 'special player' relies on super agent

0 2

Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Matheus Cunha is Manchester United’s first choice target for the number ten position.

Previously described by manager Vitor Pereira as a ‘special player‘, Cunha has scored 10 league goals in that position this season.

Cunha wants to join Man United and the club are ready to trigger his £62.5million release clause. The Red Devils intend to wrap up deals for him and Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap as soon as possible.

However, a deal for Cunha may be more difficult than United anticipated. According to Brazilian outlet Trivela, super agent Jorge Mendes must approve the move.

Mendes has a significant influence at Wolves due to his relationship with the club’s owners, Fosun International, who have acquired a part of his agency.

The Portuguese agent plays a big role in major transfers at Molineux, and a move for Cunha would be no different.

After negotiations with the forward’s agent, Giuliano Bertolucci, Mendes was involved in Cunha’s move to Wolves from Atletico Madrid in 2023.

Mendes’ relationship with United could help Cunha’s deal

Mendes was involved in the club’s signing of Cristiano Ronaldo from Sporting in 2003.

He also recently facilitated the transfers of centre-back Leny Yoro and midfielder Manuel Ugarte to the Mancunian giants.

United should use their existing relationship with the agent to secure the signing of Cunha.

His involvement may incur an additional financial cost for United, but they must not allow the opportunity to sign a primary target slip through their fingers.

With other clubs interested in signing Cunha, Man United must do whatever it takes to sign the Brazilian international.
