Ange Postecoglou told he made a harsh mistake with Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray this week

Les Ferdinand has questioned a selection call that Ange Postecoglou made against Liverpool, which meant that Tottenham were handed a thrashing, and their morale took a hit ahead of their Europa League semifinal against Bodo/Glimt.

It seems like there is a general acceptance after the 5-1 loss to Liverpool that it is time to call time on the Postecoglou experiment this summer, no matter what happens in the Europa League.

Tottenham are on course to achieve their lowest points tally in Premier League history, which certainly does not make for pretty reading for the Australian.

Some pundits have blasted Postecoglou for failing to even do the basics at Spurs, and now a former Tottenham striker has questioned the logic behind the decision the 59-year-old made at Anfield.

Les Ferdinand has admitted that he knew the Lilywhites would be in for a hard time against the Reds when he saw their midfield at Merseyside on Sunday.

The former Spurs striker questioned the logic of pairing two teenagers, Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall, together in the middle of the park in a tough atmosphere like the one at Anfield.

Ferdinand said on the Seaman Says podcast: “I felt for the two boys in Gray and Bergvall in the middle of the park. Because that was always going to be tough for them against those.

“You know, you want to see youngsters get an opportunity, you know what I mean, but… sometimes you need them with a senior player, especially in a game like that.

“Both of them have played a lot of games this season. I know Gray has played a lot as a centre-back.”

When Ferdinand was asked what Gray’s natural position is, he responded: “He played right-back for Leeds a lot. But they see him as a midfield player. But then he was playing centre-back – so it’s all a good learning curve for him.”

This season has done wonders for Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall

Both Gray and Bergvall could not have asked for better first seasons at Tottenham from a personal standpoint, although things have not gone to plan for the club.

They have both got a lot of minutes in high-pressure situations and this kind of experience is invaluable at such a young age as we have already seen with the strides they have made this campaign.

If Gray and Bergvall go on to fulfil their potential, they will surely have Postecoglou to thank for that, although it seems like the Australian is not going to be at Spurs next season.
