Spanish side want to complete early Tottenham transfer but Daniel Levy will make them pay
Atletico Madrid are keen to ensure that they land Cristian Romero at the very beginning of the summer transfer window after the Tottenham centre-back expressed his willingness to make the move to the Spanish capital.
The speculation linking the Tottenham vice-captain with a move to La Liga continues to run rife, with reports indicating that Romero has given his approval for a transfer to Atletico Madrid .
There is still thought to be a big difference in the valuation of the two clubs and the Spanish outfit are said to be hoping that Romero could push to join Atletico this summer, which could bring down Tottenham Hotspur’s asking price.
A fresh report has now shed light on why the Colchoneros do not want to waste any time in wrapping up a deal for the centre-back.
Atletico Madrid make Cristian Romero plan for Club World Cup
According to AS, Romero would be ‘delighted’ to link up with his compatriot Diego Simeone at the Metropolitano Stadium this summer.
The outlet says that Atletico would like to get a deal done before the start of the Club World Cup in June, as they want Romero to be part of their squad for the tournament.
However, the report acknowledges that Tottenham are a very difficult club to negotiate with and points out that a huge gap has to be bridged between the two sides.
The report says that Daniel Levy is demanding €70m (£60m) to part ways with the centre-back, while the La Liga club are only willing to offer around €40m-€50m (£34m-£42.5m).
Romero has thrown a massive hint about his Tottenham future
Just as the speculation linking the centre-back with a move to Atletico gathers steam, Romero admitted he would love to play in La Liga.
The timing of his comments was very ominous, and Spurs fans were unhappy at Romero’s decision to go public with his transfer desire.
However, Ange Postecoglou spoke on Romero’s Tottenham future, with the head coach insisting he wants the centre-back and everyone else at the club focused on winning the Europa League.
