Crouch reveals why United should sign ‘complete package’ striker over Liam Delap
Manchester United will explore the market for a new striker in this summer’s transfer window.
Ipswich Town forward Liam Delap and Napoli’s Victor Osimhen have been linked with the club.
Pundit Peter Crouch believes Man United would be transformed with the signing of Osimhen and raised doubts about Delap.
He told Rio Ferdinand Presents: “Osimhen has been playing at a top level for a long time, and Delap has had one season in the Premier League. As much as I like him (Delap), I think he will be a top player.
“If it is one or the other, I will pick Osimhen because he has been there and done it. You know what you are going to get.
“With Osimhen, he is proven. A striker can change the whole dynamic of the team. You are scoring goals and winning games, you have no right to win – that is when confidence changes.”
United should prioritise a move for Osimhen over Delap
United may be unable to fix their goalscoring woes by signing Delap.
The Red Devils signed strikers Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee after they impressed with Atalanta and Bologna, respectively.
However, they have been unable to replicate those performances at Old Trafford because of their inexperience and inability to cope with the pressure of playing for United.
Delap may suffer the same fate because of his inexperience. He has played for just one full season in the top flight, and his team was relegated.
By contrast, Osimhen has demonstrated his ability to play at a high level, leading Napoli to their first Serie A title in 33 years in the 2022/2023 season.
Previously described by Luciano Spalletti as the ‘complete package,’ Osimhen has the quality to transform Man United’s fortunes.
The Nigerian international should be a priority target for United in the summer transfer window.
