Patriots Rumors: This Player Caused War Room Disagreement

Eliot Wolf revealed there was a disagreement inside the Patriots’ war room during the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft.

Some executives desired running back TreVeyon Henderson, New England’s second-round selection at 38th overall. Others, however, apparently made the case for a different player ahead of the selection.

Wolf didn’t publicly name the prospect, but multiple reports indicated Arizona offensive lineman Jonah Savaiinaea was mentioned in the debate. Boston Sports Journal’s Greg Bedard first reported the news Saturday night before MassLive’s Mark Daniels confirmed it Monday.

The Dolphins traded up with the Raiders and acquired the 37th overall pick, one before the Patriots. Miami drafted Savaiinaea with that selection.

There was some speculation that wide receiver Jayden Higgins (selected 34th overall) was the prospect in the discussion. Savaiinaea makes sense, too. He projects as a guard in the NFL after playing tackle at Arizona, and New England could have tried to solidify its left guard spot after drafting left tackle Will Campbell.

Ultimately, that wouldn’t have been a long debate, with Savanaainea coming off the board before New England went on the clock, something Wolf’s comments reinforced.
