Harry Kane suffers more trophy heartbreak after Bayern Munich booking
Harry Kane’s wait for the first major trophy is all but over, with Bayern Munich set to clinch the Bundesliga title, but the former Tottenham man has just received some very bad news ahead of the club’s impending league win.
One can argue that no one in world football deserves a trophy more than Kane, given all the records that the striker has broken for club and country over the course of his career.
It is now only a matter of time before the 31-year-old’s trophy curse is lifted, and the former Tottenham Hotspur man has certainly played a hugely significant role in Bayern’s march to the title, having scored 24 goals and provided nine assists in 29 league matches this season.
However, it turns out that the striker will not be on the pitch when his side are crowned Champions after what transpired on Saturday.
Harry Kane could miss Bayern Munich’s title-clinching game
Kane played 88 minutes on Sunday as Bayern overcame Mainz 3-0 with goals from Leroy Sane, Michael Olise and Eric Dier.
The result means that the Bavarian side only need a draw against Leipzig at the Red Bull Arena next weekend to wrap up the title.
However, the England captain will unfortunately play no part in that game after receiving his fifth yellow card of the season against Mainz, which has resulted in a one-match suspension.
Kane made a cynical challenge on Jonathan Burkardt in the first half, leaving the referee with no choice but to book him, and from the former Tottenham man’s reaction, it seemed like he immediately knew what that meant.
Bayern will not lift the trophy next week
There is no doubt that the 31-year-old will be disappointed that he will not be on the pitch with his teammates to celebrate the winning moment should it arrive at Leipzig.
However, the one saving grace for Kane is that Bayern will not lift the trophy at the Red Bull Arena even if they get the job done on the day.
According to talkSPORT, the tradition in the Bundesliga is that the title will be awarded to the winners in the final home game of the season, which the centre-forward is very much expected to be part of.
