Patriots Sixth-Round Pick Excited To Prove This Narrative Wrong
The New England Patriots created a little bit of internal competition when they selected Miami kicker Andres Borregales with the 182nd pick.
Although Borregales is a Florida native, the 5-foot-11, 202-pound kicker is looking forward to emulating Patriots legend Adam Vinatieri.
“I mean, I’m excited,” Borregales told reporters during a virtual press conference on Saturday. “All my life, I looked up to Adam Vinatieri, a legend, honestly. Especially all those kicks in the snow and clutch kicks in the snow, actually. I can’t wait to experience that. I know a lot of people thought that, obviously, being from Miami, I can’t handle the cold. I think I can prove people wrong about that.”
As a four-year starter at Miami, Borregales converted 18-of-19 field goal attempts, including a long of 56 yards, and was a perfect 62-for-62 on extra points. He hopes to join the conversation about the long history of the Patriots’ kickers, including Vinatieri, Stephen Gostkowski, and Nick Folk.
“I feel like the Patriots are honestly a good line of legendary kickers,” he said. “I’m excited to hopefully one day be part of that conversation and contribute to this organization.”
Borregales said he is looking forward to the competition with Parker Romo for the starting job in New England.
“I played him my freshman year,” Borregales said. “We trained with the same coach, Adam Tanalski. I’m good friends with him. I’m excited to get in there, and we’ll compete; may the best man win. At the end of the day, that’s still my guy.”
