Manchester United rallied twice to beat Everton 4-2 in the first round of the Premier League 2 play-offs on Friday evening.

Chido Obi was not involved in the matchday squad. The young striker could make his full debut for the first team at Bournemouth on Sunday.

Despite the Danish striker’s absence, head coach Travis Binnion named a strong team.

The starting line-up included Elyh Harrison, Ethan Wheatley, Sekou Kone, Tyler Fletcher and Jack Moorhouse, all of whom have been named in the first-team matchday squad this term.

Everton made a quick start as forward Martin Sherif scored with a left-footed strike less than a minute into the game.

United drew level after a beautiful team move. Harrison passed to Wheatley, who chested the ball to James Scanlon.

Scanlon picked out Sam Murray, whose precise pass allowed Wheatley to put the ball home.

Sherif restored the Toffees’ lead in the 33rd minute. Braiden Graham headed a corner kick back across the goal, and the ball bounced off Sherif’s midriff into the back of the net.

Not long after the restart, the Red Devils restored parity after Wheatley dispossessed substitute Luca Davis before striking the ball powerfully into the top right corner.

United grabbed the lead in the 71st minute after a brilliant individual effort from midfielder Kone. The Ivorian threaded a pass to Fletcher, who fired the ball into the bottom left corner.

Kone sealed the victory for the Red Devils with another fantastic effort, picking up the top left corner with a deflected shot from outside the penalty area.

United are through to the play-off quarter-final, where they will face either West Ham United or Sunderland.
