NFL Analyst Loves Patriots Third-Round Wide Receiver Selection

The Patriots clearly had a path in mind for day two of the 2025 NFL draft — get offensive help for franchise quarterback Drake Maye.

Eliot Wolf and Mike Vrabel selected explosive running back TreVeyon Henderson with their second-round pick, and then snagged wide receiver Kyle Williams and center Jared Wilson in the third round. The three picks came after selecting offensive tackle Will Campbell with the fourth overall pick.

Of the three picks on night two, NFL analyst Chris Simms loves New England selecting Williams.

“My man Kyle Williams. WR2 this year. Blown away by the film,” Simms wrote on X. “Quickest feet in the draft combined with real acceleration. He runs away from people all the time. Pats and Drake Maye got a gem.”

Simms had Williams projected as his No. 2 wide receiver, behind only Travis Hunter, in this draft class.

“He is the best separator in the class and his top speed is awesome,” Simms said during a draft segment on NBC. “I will second on top of that, that only… only. Travis Hunter is the only guy you could say is a better route runner than him. And I’m not even sure if that’s true. That’s how good this guy is. This guy is awesome. I was blown away by him.”

The former NFL quarterback added that Williams’ ability to “dance and move” on the line of scrimmage, and also explode after catching the ball, is special.

“Some of the quickest feet I’ve seen yet, on top of that, he can really accelerate, like really accelerate,” he said. “… What you see on film, he runs away from people all the time, whether the ball’s in his hands or not, he runs by people, and he goes deep. This is where I will give him over Travis Hunter.”

The Patriots still have six more picks in the draft to help build the roster for the new era in New England.
