Chelsea vs Everton, Newcastle vs Ipswich: Shock Results Could Hand Villa the Champions League Edge
With just a handful of games left, Aston Villa are right in the thick of the race for Champions League qualification—and we’ve absolutely earned the right to be in this position. Our form in recent months has been excellent. The team has shown resilience, quality, and consistency, and Unai Emery deserves huge credit for how he’s kept the group focused through injuries and a busy fixture list.
But as it often happens in the final stretch of a season, it’s no longer just about what we do—it’s also about what happens elsewhere.
This weekend, there are a couple of results we’ll be keeping a close eye on. First, we really need Everton to get something against Chelsea. A win for Everton would be perfect, but even a draw would slow Chelsea down and stop them from widening the gap. Their form has been indifferent, but if they turn up with a bit of fight—the kind they’ve shown in flashes this season—a good result for Villa might just be on the cards.
Then there’s Ipswich versus Newcastle. I know this one feels more like a long shot—maybe even pure optimism—but if Ipswich can take anything from that game, it would be a massive boost. A draw would be more than welcome. Newcastle are still in the mix, and with their recent slip-up against us, here’s hoping they drop more points today. UTV
