Big blow for Man Utd as £30m star suffers calf injury, could miss rest of the season
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has confirmed a fresh injury blow ahead of the Premier League clash against Bournemouth this weekend.
The Red Devils have had a dismal league campaign. They have accumulated just 38 points after 33 games. Ahead of Sunday’s trip to the Vitality Stadium, Amorim has revealed another setback.
The Portuguese tactician said Diogo Dalot is ruled out with a calf injury. The £30 million-rated star could be on the sidelines for the rest of the campaign.
The manager added that Amad Diallo and Matthijs de Ligt are close to making their comebacks. Ayden Heaven is also unfit for the upcoming trip to the South Coast.
He said (via Manchester Evening News): “Diogo Dalot is out. We don’t know how long he is going to be out but he is out for these next games.
“Amad is near, De Ligt is near. Ayden is not ready.
“There is a possibility (if Dalot will miss the rest of the season) but we will see week by week.
“He has something in his calf muscle. He had a sequence of games he played all the time. We tried to manage but we had to protect players and Dalot felt something.”
United are currently 14th in the table, and they have only pride to play for in the league.
The club face Athletic Bilbao in the first leg of the Europa League semi-final on the road on May 1.
Amorim cannot afford any more injuries in the lead-up to the game at the Estadio de San Mames.
Hence, we could see a heavily-rotated starting XI to face the Cherries in Sunday’s afternoon kick-off.
The manager could hand more opportunities to youngsters. Chido Obi could lead the line ahead of Rasmus Hojlund.
Tyler Fredricson was sensational in the back three on his club debut last weekend and should get the nod in the XI again.
Godwill Kukonki, Jack Moorhouse and Jaydan Kamason have been part of the matchday squads over the past few months.
Kamason could make a surprise full debut at right wing-back. Amorim may not risk Patrick Dorgu before the Basque Country trip.
