Safe Or Sorry? Patriots’ Will Campbell Pick Draws Mixed Reviews

The Patriots finally did the inevitable on Thursday.

New England officially selected LSU offensive lineman Will Campbell with the No. 4 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, putting an end to months of rumor and innuendo regarding which direction they would ultimately go.

NESN’s George Balekji, Travis Thomas, Kasey Hudson, Keagan Stiefel and Sean McGuire were all on hand to give their reactions, with the former three coming to a consensus opinion almost immediately.

“(Campbell) is a guy who will be a future face of the franchise, along with Drake Maye,” Balekji said. “It’s taking someone who will be a stud for the next 12 years, 15 years… Mike Vrabel is in love with this guy.”

“Campbell has the highest floor of any of these prospects,” Thomas said.

“It’s a popular pick among the players,” Hudson said. “Drake Maye and Kendrick Bourne both took to social media soon after the pick was made.”

Stiefel came in and had a different opinion, believing that the selection wasn’t the best example of “maximizing value” with such a valuable asset.

“You’re betting that he’ll end up being a one-of-one type player, which is absurd,” Stiefel said. “Campbell would be the biggest historical outlier in football history, and I wouldn’t be the person to bet on that. I like it, I just don’t love it.”

McGuire was down in Foxboro, Mass., though, and provided an inside perspective on the selection.

“Vrabel said, ‘This was a very, very easy pick for us,'” McGuire said. “I think that says it all.”
