Tottenham willing to rival Barcelona to sign Fiorentina right-back this summer
Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly sniffing around the right-back market, and it seems they have now set their sights on a Serie A defender who is also attracting interest from Barcelona.
Of course, at the moment, one could argue that the right-back position is the least of Tottenham’s worries.
And that’s no surprise, as Tottenham have a handful of options available to them in that area of the pitch, with Djed Spence, Pedro Porro, Archie Gray and even Ben Davies capable of filling in that role.
However, reports now suggest that despite being well stocked in that position, Tottenham have made an enquiry about Fiorentina’s right-back.
Tottenham join Barcelona in race for Fiorentina defender Dodo
According to a report from AS, Spurs are among the clubs keeping tabs on Fiorentina full-back Dodo, with interest picking up ahead of the summer window.
Barcelona are also keen, and in fact, the Catalan giants are believed to have placed the Brazilian at the top of their shortlist as they actively search for a new right-back.
Barca’s sporting director Deco has been scouring the market for potential signings and is said to have drawn up a shortlist with just two names on it – Dodo and Rayo Vallecano’s Andrei Ratiu.
Talks have reportedly been held with representatives from both camps.
Spurs keeping tabs despite right-back depth
Tottenham Hotspur aren’t the only ones keeping tabs on Dodo, with Atletico Madrid, Milan and Juventus also making enquiries.
Barcelona remain the favourites, but Fiorentina are open to a bidding war, especially as they value the full-back at around €25m (£21.5m).
While signing a right-back might not be high on Tottenham’s list of priorities, the report insists they’ve asked the question about Dodo and could step up their interest depending on how the market unfolds.
