Man Utd player ratings vs Wolves: Two 8/10s impress but Amorim must axe 3/10 disappointing ace
Manchester United suffered a 1-0 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers at Old Trafford in the Premier League.
United’s head coach made sweeping changes to the side that triumphed over Lyon mid-week, with academy prodigy Tyler Fredricson handed his debut, starting as the left centre-back.
The first half was a drab affair, with both teams struggling to find any creative rhythm.
Both managers rang changes in the second half and substitute Pablo Sarabia delivered the decisive blow in the 77th minute, giving Wolves the lead.
United had several golden opportunities to break the deadlock, but their erratic finishing let them down once again.
This defeat marks United’s 15th league loss of the 2024-25 season, leaving them with plenty to ponder.
Player Ratings
Andre Onana – 4/10
The Cameroon international was beaten far too easily by Pablo Sarabia.
Noussair Mazraoui – 6/10
Apart from conceding a free-kick in a dangerous area, he put in an assured performance.
Victor Lindelof – 5/10
In Bruno Fernandes absence, Lindelof wore the captain’s armband.
He was caught off guard by Cunha in the lead-up to the free-kick goal, a mistake that proved costly.
Tyler Fredricson – 8/10
Tyler delivered a very steady debut. He looked unfazed at the back and calm with the ball at his feet, showing maturity beyond his years.
Patrick Dorgu – 6/10
Dorgu twice whipped in a dazzling left-footed cross that begged for a finish, but his teammates could not answer the call.
He got booked for a cynical foul right before his substitution.
Harry Amass – 9/10
Amass delivered a standout performance on his full Old Trafford debut.
He sent in a sublime cross that narrowly eluded Hojlund and consistently linked up with Garnacho.
He clearly deserves more minutes with the senior team.
Manuel Ugarte – 7/10
Ugarte sniffed out danger and reclaimed possession several times but could have done better with his ball distribution.
Christian Eriksen – 6/10
He tested Wolves keeper with a decent effort from free kick and created a late opportunity for Mount.
Kobbie Mainoo – 6/10
Mainoo nearly rolled back the highlight reel with a trademark curler in the first half but missed to hit the target.
Alejandro Garnacho – 8/10
Garnacho was a creative spark all game, carving out three gilt-edged chances that deserved better.
Hojlund, Fernandes, and Mount all let him down with their final touches.
Rasmus Hojlund – 3/10
The Denmark international was always a step behind a key moment as he struggled to get into the right positions to meet crosses floated by Amass and Dorgu.
He has two superb chances to put United ahead but disappointed with his final contribution.
He must be sold in the summer if he fails to prove his worth by the end of the campaign.
Substitutions
Diogo Dalot – 6/10
Dalot got a much-needed rest and did okay in attack after coming off the bench.
Bruno Fernandes – 6/10
His introduction tilted the momentum in United’s favor as opportunities began to flow. He had a golden chance to break the deadlock, but his shot skewed wide.
Mason Mount – 4/10
The England international blazed his shot over the bar when United were 1-0 down.
Chido Obi – 6/10
He should have taken a shot rather than cutting it back to find a red shirt.
Leny Yoro – NA
Too late to rate.
