Tottenham player who starred against Eintracht Frankfurt is ‘likely’ to leave this summer

0 6

One senior Tottenham Hotspur man, who was the star of the club’s hard-fought 1-0 win away at Eintracht Frankfurt, has now been deemed likely to leave the club this summer.

Several of Spurs’ big-name stars have underperformed this season, which is why the club are where they are in the Premier League table.

One of those is Cristian Romero, who has had a stop-start season due to injuries, but that does not excuse some of the poor errors the Argentine has made, like the one in Tottenham’s 4-2 loss to Wolves last Sunday.

However, the centre-back delivered a captain’s display on Thursday as the Lilywhites sealed their progression into the Europa League semifinals, with Tottenham fans over the moon with Romero’s performance.

Romero hit back at his critics and sent a definite message after Spurs sealed progression into the final four, but a fresh update has now suggested that his days at the club are likely to be numbered.

Cristian Romero is likely to swap Tottenham for Atletico

Over recent weeks, it has been widely reported that Romero is keen on joining Atletico Madrid after the La Liga side expressed an interest in the centre-back.

The centre-back is thought to be keen to play Champions League football and compete for major honours, and Spurs fans would perhaps be hoping that the 26-year-old may change his mind if the club win the Europa League.

However, it has now been claimed by talkSPORT that Tottenham are ‘likely’ to lose Romero to Atletico Madrid in the upcoming transfer window.

The outlet confirms what we have heard from other sources by claiming that the Lilywhites have identified Bournemouth’s Dean Huijsen as a potential option to replace the Argentine.

The report says that the 20-year-old, who is also on the radars of Liverpool, Chelsea, and Arsenal, has a release clause of £50m in his contract, with the Cherries resigned to losing him this summer.

Could Cristian Romero have a change of heart?

The Spurs vice-captain has two years left on his contract and several outlets have claimed over recent months that Tottenham are ready to offer Romero an improved long-term deal.

According to various sources, Romero is only stalling on a new contract because he wants to play in the Champions League, with the centre-back having only played the competition once in his four seasons at Spurs.

If that is the case, one would think that winning the Europa League would certainly boost Tottenham’s chances of hanging onto the World Cup winner.
