Another full debut loading: Amorim could unleash three teen talents vs Wolves
Manchester United are set to host Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League on Sunday.
Fresh off a jaw-dropping 5-4 thriller against Lyon in the Europa League, the Red Devils punched their ticket to the semi-finals in sensational style.
Manager Ruben Amorim didn’t shy away from admitting that all eyes are now firmly fixed on European glory, rather than domestic redemption.
Amorim teased the possibility of unleashing rising stars Chido Obi, Harry Amass, and Ayden Heaven on Sunday.
He said (via ManUtd.com): “Sometimes you have surprises. Ayden [Heaven] just played and I can be honest, we did it because we had injuries in that moment.
“But today, I think Ayden is my player so when he is ready and facing the competition in the team, he is ready to play. So you don’t know.
“Amass did really well today. Chido, [Obi] when he played, he played quite well. It is a difficult moment, it is not the right moment for the kids to play, but if we have to do it then we will do it.”
The Portuguese manager is spot on with his approach to rotating his side in the Premier League.
With United languishing in 14th place and their top-four hopes mathematically slipping away, focussing on the Europa League makes complete sense.
Winning the Europa League not only adds to the trophy cabinet but guarantees Champions League football next season.
The Red Devils have a fascinating pool of talent in their academy.
Amass and Heaven have already experienced their full debuts, and the spotlight could now shift to Obi for his first senior start.
Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund are the only two forwards available in the squad.
Hojlund looked exhausted when he came off against Lyon, opening the door for Obi to seize his moment.
Sunday’s fixture could be less about league standings and more about glimpsing the future.
