3/3 tackles, 9 duels won, 7 recoveries: 8/10 United star deserves special praise after three big moments vs Lyon
Manchester United progressed to the last four of the Europa League following a 5-4 win over Lyon in the second leg of the quarter-final at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils played out a 2-2 draw in the first leg on the road last week. They made a good start in the opening half yesterday, scoring a couple of goals.
United were on course for a comfortable win before a late comeback from Les Gones.
The French outfit scored in the 71st and 77th minute respectively, but were handed a big disadvantage before extra-time with Corentin Tolisso’s red card.
Lyon surprised the United faithful with two more goals in extra time, but the Red Devils made a sensational comeback to secure a 5-4 victory in the end.
Casemiro was the man of the match, in our opinion. The Brazilian won the penalty for United’s third goal before assisting Kobbie Mainoo and Harry Maguire. He led the turnaround with three big moments.
The Brazil international rolled back the years with a phenomenal performance. Aside from his goal involvements, Casemiro won nine duels in the game.
He also made seven recoveries and eight clearances while winning 100 percent of his tackles (3/3).
Casemiro has received criticism in the past for his limited mobility, but he stepped up for United when required to keep their hopes of silverware truly alive.
The pace of the Europa League obviously suits him. The midfielder received an impressive 8/10 rating from Manchester Evening News for his performance.
United will face Athletic Bilbao in the semi-final phase of the European competition. The first leg will be played at the Estadio de San Mames on May 1.
Bilbao are a tricky opposition like Lyon with some top-quality attacking players. United must secure a positive result before the return leg at home.
