Why injured Heung-min Son is not at least supporting Tottenham in Frankfurt revealed
Some Spurs fans have been wondering why Heung-min Son has not travelled to Frankfurt to support the Tottenham team despite his injury, and Ange Postecoglou has now provided an answer to that question.
Tottenham Hotspur have received a massive blow ahead of their second leg against Eintracht Frankfurt this afternoon after learning that their captain has been ruled out with an injury.
Ange Postecoglou revealed that Son has been struggling with a foot injury for a couple of weeks, with the South Korean unable to shake it off ahead of what is the club’s biggest game of the season.
While the 32-year-old has not had the best of seasons, he is Tottenham’s man for the big occasion, which is why his absence makes the Lilywhites’ task of progressing to the Europa League semifinals much more difficult.
Why Heung-min Son has not travelled with Tottenham
Despite his injury, some on social media have been wondering: why has Son not accompanied the team to Frankfurt to offer leadership to the squad and to support his teammates?
Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has now revealed that it was Postecoglou and the Tottenham medical staff who made the decision to leave the forward in London.
Son is reportedly going through a personalised rehabilitation program with physios at Hotspur Way to ensure that he can return to action as fast as possible.
The club decided that Son would be better served using the state-of-the-art rehabilitation equipment at the training ground rather than travelling to Germany, with the club making every effort to ensure that their captain is available for a potential Europa League semifinal fixture.
Who will start in place of Son against Frankfurt?
Postecoglou now faces an interesting decision regarding who to start on the left of Tottenham’s front three alongside Dominic Solanke and Brennan Johnson.
Mathys Tel has been among the goals in the Premier League of late, while Wilson Odobert adds something different to the side with his ability to beat players.
Postecoglou may even be tempted to make a surprise selection by starting Richarlison, who has impressed since returning from his latest injury layoff.
