Mathys Tel left ‘not very happy’ despite scoring his third Tottenham goal
Mathys Tel has reflected on his feelings following Tottenham’s 4-2 loss against Wolves and has identified one area in which he and his teammates have to improve in order to turn around their form.
From a personal perspective, the Frenchman has been showing some positive signs over recent weeks since being moved to left. Tel found the back of the net at the Molineux Stadium, which means that he now has three in a Spurs shirt and has scored in back to back Premier League games.
Ahead of the clash on Sunday, Ange Postecoglou had said that Tel was showing big improvements over recent weeks, with the Australian pointing out that he had a difficult settling in period at the club, arriving as he did at a tumultuous time.
However, the 19-year-old is not in a particularly good mood despite scoring his first goal in open play in the Premier League.
Mathys Tel makes admission after Tottenham’s loss against Wolves
The forward’s improved form comes at a time when rumours abound that Tottenham have decided against activating the £45m option to buy Tel.
The on-loan Bayern Munich man might have showed the Spurs hierarchy a glimpse of what he can offer but he admitted that he could not enjoy the goal, given that his side ended up on the wrong side of the result.
When asked about his goal, Tel told Spurs Play: “I’m very happy to score my second goal in the Premier League but I’m a person who has to look at my team, always about my team.
“Yes I scored but we lost and I’m not very happy…but we have a good game, a big game next week and we have to be ready for this game and just go again and don’t give up.”
Tel admits Spurs need to learn from their mistakes
The teenager insisted that despite the disappointing results of late, Spurs have to look ahead to the huge Europa League challenge that awaits them.
After an error-filled performance by the side at the Molineux Stadium, Tel stressed the need for Tottenham to maintain their concentration through the whole game.
He added: “It’s completely difficult and we know that, but we can’t give up. We have to learn from this situation and just go again and show who we are.
“We have to concentrate from the first minute until the last minute. Yes, today was unlucky for us I think, we showed some good things but we did a lot of mistakes today and that’s why we lost.”
