Tottenham receive triple player boost ahead of Europa League tie in Frankfurt

0 3

Tottenham Hotspur have received a timely boost ahead of their crucial Europa League quarter-final second-leg away tie to Frankfurt, with three key players now cleared to feature.

It’s do or die for Tottenham Hotspur when they travel to Germany for the return leg of their Europa League tie against Frankfurt.

After settling for a 1-1 draw in the first leg, the equation is simple—win on the night and book a spot in the semi-finals.

For Ange Postecoglou, there’s more than just progression at stake. With his side’s league form faltering, failure to advance in Europe could have serious consequences.

A defeat on Thursday might spell the end for the Australian, with some already questioning whether he’ll survive the week.

Tottenham handed suspension boost for Frankfurt game

Spurs have now been handed a major boost for the remainder of the Europa League campaign. In the first leg, it was reported that three Tottenham players—Dejan Kulusevski, Lucas Bergvall and Yves Bissouma—were walking the suspension tightrope.

All three needed to avoid bookings to stay eligible for the second leg, and that’s exactly what happened.

Bergvall, the only one of the trio to start, avoided a yellow card, alongside Yves Bissouma and Dejan Kulusevski, who didn’t feature at all, meaning all three will be available for the trip to Germany

The boost comes because, according to UEFA’s disciplinary regulations, all yellow cards are wiped after the quarter-final stage. That means they won’t carry into the semi-finals, giving Tottenham a clean slate should they advance.

Suspensions from yellows can no longer affect players from this point forward; only a red card could rule someone out of the final.

Spurs handed further lift as Dejan Kulusevski returns

Avoiding suspensions isn’t the only bit of good news Ange Postecoglou has received ahead of Thursday.

During the clash against Wolves, Dejan Kulusevski—who was a doubt for the weekend—made a welcome return with a 15-minute cameo off the bench, replacing James Maddison.

That late run-out signals he’s fit enough to play a part in Germany. With Bergvall also in the mix, Tottenham now have both of their Swedish internationals ready and available for a game that could shape the rest of their season.
