Kilmarnock 18s 2 Queen’s Park 18s 2

0 4

A brace by Connor Falls, one goal in each half, earned the Wee Spiders a draw against third placed Kilmarnock at Rugby Park on Friday.

This was the third time Queen’s had played Killie this season with the Ayrshire side coming out on top on both previous occasions.

It was another warm and sunny afternoon for football, with water breaks planned for both halves.

Killie started brightly, testing the Queen’s defence in the eighth minute, when Grant Marchant stepped onto a cut back and shot for goal. Fortunately for the Spiders Leo Fisher blocked the shot.

Kilmarnock’s pressure paid off in the 11th minute when Jack Allan was first to react to a loose ball inside the six yard box, as a result of a great save by Queen’s keeper Rory Campbell, to drive the ball into the net.

In the 20th minute Queen’s had their first shot on goal with William Thomson testing the Killie keeper from the edge of the box.

The young Spiders equalised in the 30th minute when Connor Falls picked up a long clearance, turned and drove into the Kilmarnock box before hitting a low shot past the keeper into the right side of the net

Three minutes later, after a powerful run through the Kilmarnock midfield by Michael Collie, Sam Maclachlan had a shot which hit the bar.

In the 35th minute Rory Campbell pulled off a great diving save to deny an almost certain Killie goal.

Rory Cambell was called into action once again, in the 57th minute, when he blocked a shot from Kilmarnock’s Cooper Eaglesham who was one on one with the Queen’s keeper.

Queen’s made their first change in the 60th minute with Gosdspower Oguama, Leo Clark and Jaden Riddell replacing Nathan Lees, Michael Collie and Cole Burke.

Killie restored their lead in the 68th minute when Grant Marchant latched on to a low ball across the goal to fire the ball into the net from four yards out.

Finn Coyle Morrow replaced William Thomson in the 78th minute.

Connor Falls equalised for the Wee Spiders a minute from time. Connor drove forward, played the ball wide to Matthew Murray-Smith who knocked the ball into space for Connor to step onto and tap the ball past the keeper into the net.

Connor Falls scores his and Queen's second goal of the game.

Queen’s could have nicked all three points, in injury time, when Connor Falls hit the bar from a shot from the edge of the box, but it finished all square.
