Tottenham Hotspur hold transfer meeting with young Bournemouth star

0 2

Tottenham Hotspur have received some good news and some bad news in their rumoured pursuit of a young Premier League defender as David Ornstein provides the latest on the player’s future.

With an increasing number of sources indicating that Cristian Romero’s time at Tottenham could end this summer, it comes as no surprise to see the Lilywhites being linked with some top-class centre-backs ahead of the transfer window.

It has been widely reported over recent months that Tottenham are big fans of Bournemouth defender Dean Huijsen, who is having a stellar first season in the Premier League following his move from Juventus last summer.

However, Tottenham are expected to face a lot of competition for Huijsen, with many big clubs from across Europe thought to be eyeing a move for the 19-year-old.

David Ornstein says Tottenham contacted Dean Huijsen

The Athletic’s David Ornstein has now revealed that a number of top clubs across the Premier League, including Spurs, have all contacted the Cherries centre-back’s entourage about a summer switch.

He named Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Newcastle as the other four clubs who have reached out to the Spain international, but he explained that none of these clubs have pushed ahead with an offer so far.

The journalist said on the Ask Ornstein blog on The Athletic: “I now understand that Liverpool are among the clubs with a firm interest in Dean Huijsen. This has been reported elsewhere and is accurate. Chelsea have enquired and Arsenal are in the mix, too.

“At the moment, those are perhaps the three leading contenders, but not the only ones, with Newcastle and Tottenham also keen. I believe they have all held meetings or conversations with Huijsen’s camp in the past week, but I’m not aware of offers being made just yet, so the direction of travel remains unclear.”

Dean Huijsen expected to remain in Premier League

Over recent weeks, we have been hearing that Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are also keen on signing Huijsen this summer.

Ornstein has now confirmed that a move to Los Blancos would tempt the teenage centre-back but predicted that the young defender is likely to remain in the Premier League.

He added: “It has been well documented that Real Madrid held great appeal for Huijsen growing up and they do like him, but I don’t know of them actively working on it and therefore — at the time of writing — it looks most probable he will join another Premier League club.

“I think there’s a desire on the part of Bournemouth and the player to have this situation decided as soon as possible. The £50m release clause makes it a clean and potentially quick deal to do, which we’ve seen Liverpool capitalise on in the past.”
