Tottenham could trigger target’s £30m release clause this summer if they want

0 6

Fabrizio Romano has now revealed that the release clause in Liam Delap’s contract is even lower than previously reported, but the journalist explains that the rumoured Tottenham target is also on the wishlist of a couple of other Premier League giants.

Given the dearth of top-class number nines at the highest level, one can be sure that Liam Delap will be a wanted man this summer on the back of his impressive goalscoring exploits for a struggling Ipswich Town side this season.

Over the last couple of months, we have regularly heard that Tottenham are expected to make a move for Liam Delap this summer, with the Lilywhites thought to be admirers of the 22-year-old.

Last week, The Daily Mail handed Spurs a boost by revealing that a clause in Delap’s contract allows him to leave for £40m if Ipswich’s relegation is confirmed, but a fresh update has now suggested that the youngster will be even cheaper.

Fabrizio Romano provides huge Liam Delap transfer update

Fabrizio Romano has now taken to social media to confirm that the striker’s contract does have a relegation clause, which allows him to exit Portman Road Stadium this summer.

However, according to the Italian’s information, the clause is not £40m, but rather stands at just £30m, thus making it a very lucrative deal for Spurs and other clubs in the top flight.

Interestingly though, Romano does not mention Tottenham Hotspur among the clubs interested in Delap, instead naming Man United and Chelsea as the two clubs who are keen on securing the centre-forward’s services.

Spurs are not the favourites to land Liam Delap

This update from Romano comes just a couple of days after it was revealed that Chelsea have moved into pole position to sign Delap this summer.

However, the outlet explained that Spurs, Arsenal and Liverpool had also spoken to the striker’s representatives and that the 22-year-old is yet to make a final decision on his future.
