Five Red Sox Land On ESPN’s Top 100 MLB Player Power Ranking
ESPN on Wednesday released a power ranking of the top 100 MLB players for the 2025 season, and the Red Sox were pretty well-represented.
The list, which was compiled with the assistance of 60 “baseball experts” at the Worldwide Leader, featured five Boston standouts. In fact, four of those Red Sox were ranked inside the top 50, with Rafael Devers pacing the group at No. 25.
“No player will be under more scrutiny in 2025 than Devers — especially after starting the season with 15 strikeouts and no hits in his first five games,” David Schoenfield wrote. “After the Red Sox signed Alex Bregman, Devers said he wasn’t open to moving from third base — though he eventually reversed course about a move to DH and said he’s ready to help the team win. He also spent the offseason rehabbing both shoulders and showed up to camp out of shape. If his mind and body are right, there’s no denying his offensive prowess: He’s hit .279/.354/.519 over the past four seasons, averaging 32 home runs and 96 RBIs.”
Speaking of Bregman, Boston’s new third baseman found himself at No. 47 on the list. The two-time World Series champion wasn’t far behind teammates Jarren Duran and Garrett Crochet, who occupied the 36th and 37th spots, respectively. First baseman Triston Casas just managed to squeeze inside the power ranking at No. 97.
Five was a solid number for the Red Sox to carry this time around, but it’s poised to grow going forward. Players like Wilyer Abreu and Kristian Campbell very well could crack the list as soon as next year.
