Where Patriots Should Seek Improvement Entering 2025 NFL Draft

The New England Patriots will soon welcome aboard a slew of prospects after April’s 2025 NFL Draft.

Having already undergone a spending spree in free agency, the Patriots can continue with their mission of improving the team’s roster by adding via this year’s draft class. New England currently holds the fourth, 38th, 69th, 77th, 106th, 144th, 217th, 220th and 238th overall selections. They most recently added four-time Pro-Bowl wide receiver Stefon Diggs on a three-year, $69 million contract, but the job isn’t done.

So what’s next? Where should the Patriots turn their attention before they’re on the clock?

“Just looking at the roster, the only spot left that has a huge question mark on it is left tackle,” Keagan Stiefel said on NESN’s “Boston Has Entered The Chat” podcast. “At this point in the offseason, you’re not gonna find one. You’re not going to find a Day 1 starting left tackle in free agency or by trade. So you kind of have to wait until the draft. Can you make supplemental moves? Yes. But with how their cap situation is set up, they techincally have $65 million but taking into account the signings they’ll have to make after the draft and filling out the roster and the Top 53 Rule, they really only have like $35 million — which is something you’ll want to carry into the season.”

Stiefel continued: “I think they’re pretty set with the roster right now in terms of free agency. Now it’s really just focusing on where do they draft that left tackle? How do they fill in the rest of the roster spots around them?”
