Hugo Lloris names six Tottenham teammates he can ‘only speak highly of’

0 11

Amidst speculation linking Mauricio Pochettino with a shock return to Tottenham Hotspur, Hugo Lloris has made an admission about working with the Argentine and the relationship he has forged with his former manager.

Nearly six years on from his sacking, Spurs fans still hold Pochettino in very high regard, with the 53-year-old managing to forge a real connection with the Tottenham faithful during his five and a half years in North London.

Just last week, Pochettino admitted that he still has unfinished business at Tottenham, which has fuelled speculation over a possible return to N17 this summer.

It has been reported over recent days that Pochettino is protected by a release clause of $25m (£19.3m), which means that Daniel Levy will have to break the bank to appoint him before his contract with the United States ends in the summer of 2026.

Hugo Lloris makes Mauricio Pochettino admission

Lloris was a central figure in the Pochettino revolution at Tottenham, with the Argentine being the man who handed the Frenchman the captain’s armband.

The goalkeeper has now admitted that his former Spurs boss was more than just a coach, revealing that the pair remain on good terms.

Lloris told La Nacion (as relayed by Sport Witness) “Mauricio Pochettino, who is more than a coach. We’re still in touch with him; we’re friends. We have a very nice relationship.”

Lloris and Pochettino now both find themselves plying their trade in America, and the LA Galaxy number one is confident that the former Tottenham manager will make the US a force for their home World Cup next year.

He added: “It’s crazy that we’re now in America. I’m playing for the MLS and he’s the manager of the national team. I’m very happy to see him in this challenge and I’m very proud of him… It’s a great responsibility to be the manager of the team that will host the next World Cup.

“It’s a lot of pressure, but I know Mauricio and his staff, and I have no doubt that he’ll be ready to compete in the World Cup and will put in a good performance. Despite the great expectations it generates, I know Mauricio will do a great job.”

Hugo Lloris speaks about the Argentines he met at Tottenham

With La Nacion being an Argentine publication, they unsurprisingly asked the former Tottenham goalkeeper about the various players from the country he played with at Spurs.

The goalkeeper admitted that he forged strong relationships with a number of Argentines during his 11 and a half years in North London.

Lloris remarked: “Honestly, I have a very good connection with my Argentine teammates. When I moved to Tottenham, I met a lot of Argentinians.

“Also with goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga, Juan Foyth, with ‘Coco’ Lamela too, who is one of my best friends in football. And of course, with Gio Lo Celso and ‘Cuti’ Romero. I can only speak highly of all of them.

“They’re very good people. I’m very grateful to have met them. They all have very nice personalities, they greatly respect their country, Argentina, and they are great human beings. They have energy and a positive spirit and are very dedicated to soccer.”
