A fresh update has shed light on the kind of conversations that have gone on between Cristian Romero’s camp and Atletico Madrid, and how keen the Tottenham man is on making the move to La Liga this summer.

Since it first emerged a little over a week ago that Atletico Madrid had contacted Cristian Romero about a transfer this summer, the speculation over the centre-back’s future has gone into hyperdrive.

Over recent days, some sources have claimed that Romero is willing to leave Tottenham this summer in search of Champions League football.

Meanwhile, it has also been suggested by a few outlets that Spurs will cash in on Romero if he does not sign a new contract before the end of the season.

Cristian Romero has spoken to Diego Simeone regarding a summer move

Journalist Sacha Tavolieri has now revealed on Sky Sports Switzerland that Romero’s proposed move to the Metropolitano Stadium is ‘on the right track’.

It is revealed that the defender recently spoke with Diego Simeone about the idea, with the Argentine coach said to consider the Tottenham man a ‘priority’ signing for the summer.

Tavolieri explains that although an agreement is yet to be reached between Atletico and Tottenham, Cristian Romero has already greenlighted a switch to the Spanish capital.

Discussions have already taken place between the Spanish side and the centre-back’s representatives regarding a potential contract, with personal terms not expected to be an obstacle to the transfer.

Atletico face one potential roadblock in Romero pursuit

The one obstacle that the La Liga club are expected to face, according to this update, is the price demanded by Tottenham for their vice-captain.

Even though Romero has just two years left on his contract, Spurs are expected to put a €80m (£67m) price tag on the World Cup winner.

Tavolieri adds that it is unclear right now if the Tottenham man will ‘cash’ with the North London club’s hierarchy in order to get his way and join the Colchoneros.
