Tottenham eye £50m Sporting Lisbon defender amid Cristian Romero rumours

0 3

Tottenham Hotspur are in the market for a new centre-back, and with Cristian Romero’s future uncertain, they have placed Sporting CP’s Ousmane Diomande high on their list of potential replacements.

If Tottenham Hotspur had any thoughts of avoiding a defensive signing this summer, those plans may have quickly changed following the latest updates on Romero.

It was reported recently that Cristian Romero is likely to leave Tottenham at the end of the season, with the lack of Champions League football playing a key role in his potential departure.

Adding to the speculation, Atletico Madrid have expressed their interest in Romero, with reports suggesting the Spanish club has already made contact regarding a possible move.

Tottenham Hotspur eye Ousmane Diomande

With these developments, Tottenham are seemingly now actively searching for defensive reinforcements and Ousmane Diomande has emerged as a potential target.

According to TBR Football, Ousmane Diomande is set to leave Sporting CP this summer, and Spurs are said to have been keeping close tabs on him throughout the season, particularly in recent months.

The Ivorian centre-back has a release clause of £67 million, but the outlet indicates he could be available for around £50 million.

It is claimed that Diomande is a priority for Tottenham, however, they are not alone in their pursuit, as several other Premier League clubs have also shown serious interest in securing his signature.

Other Premier League clubs join the race

Manchester City, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Newcastle United are all reportedly monitoring the situation closely.

For City, the potential arrival of Sporting’s current director, Hugo Viana, at the Etihad Stadium could strengthen their position in the race, with Viana said to be keen on bringing Diomande with him.

Meanwhile, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Newcastle have been tracking his progress and could rival Tottenham Hotspur for his signature.

Tottenham, of course, will be weighing up all of their options. Luka Vuskovic, currently out on loan, has been impressive and is set to return this summer.

If Romero does leave, the young defender could be integrated into the squad to provide additional depth.
