Alex Cora Makes Hard Ruling On Rafael Devers’ Red Sox Position
Rafael Devers is the designated hitter of the Boston Red Sox in 2025. Alex Cora sent that reminder Friday with more certainty of drawing a firm line on that position change.
Alex Bregman is the new third baseman in town and Devers apparently will not mix in at all at his old position. The Boston manager confirmed Friday that Romy Gonzalez and David Hamilton are next in line to fill in at third base, not Devers.
“He’s the DH of the Boston Red Sox,” Cora told reporters at Globe Life Field, per MLB.com’s Ian Browne and MassLive’s Chris Cotillo.
Bregman and Devers both went hitless in Boston’s comeback 5-2 win on Opening Day against the Texas Rangers. The Red Sox are better off with the current alignment and should maximize the roster as such.
Boston’s top of the order with Jarren Duran, Devers, Bregman and Triston Casas should drive the offense for the Red Sox all season long and benefit from a commitment to improved infield defense.
