Tottenham Hotspur’s hopes of landing Tyler Dibling has just been handed a blow as a fresh report has shed light on why Manchester United might be better placed to win the race for the Southampton man.

The Southampton winger looks set to be one of the hottest properties of the summer window, particularly as the Saints edger closer to relegation.

It has been reported by a number of sources over recent weeks that Tottenham have held talks over a deal for Dibling.

Other outlets have said that Spurs are determined to see off competition from Man United for Dibling, but a fresh update has now explained why the Red Devils may prove difficult for Tottenham to shake off in the transfer race.

The Daily Mail have now asserted that the competition for the Southampton man is now intensifying ahead of the summer window.

As many as 14 Premier League clubs, including Spurs, have allegedly enquired about the 19-year-old, who is also said to be on the radar of Bundesliga trio, RB Leipzig, Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund.

The report names Tottenham, Man United, Man City and Liverpool as the four clubs currently leading the race for the winger.

It is revealed that Ruben Amorim’s side sent scouts to Bangor City to watch Tyler Dibling in action for England Under-19s against Wales on Tuesday.

The publication adds that United have ‘an ace card’ in the race for the Saints academy graduate as their technical director, Jason Wilcox, knows the teenager well from his time at St Mary’s.

Why Tottenham may fancy their chances of landing Dibling

Tyler Dibling will have seen the fact that young players such as Archie Gray, Lucas Bergvall and Mikey Moore have been handed regular opportunities at Tottenham this season.

The winger might thus view a switch to Spurs as the ideal next step in his development.

However, Ange Postecoglou is not guaranteed to be at Tottenham next season, and the Australian’s potential sacking might put some doubts in Dibling’s mind regarding a move to N17.
