Tottenham’s Mikey Moore records back-to-back goal contributions for England U19
Tottenham winger Mikey Moore once again made a decisive contribution for Egland Under-19s as they overcame Portugal 1-0 at the Deeside Stadium in Wales on Tuesday.
Moore has seen his first-team opportunities at Tottenham dry up over recent months due to the return of key players from injury and the arrival of Mathys Tel.
However, the 17-year-old continues to demonstrate his quality every chance he gets in youth football, serving regular reminders to Ange Postecoglou about what he can offer in the final third.
Moore picked up an assist in England’s Under-19s win over Wales last week, and the Tottenham academy graduate has once again shown through against Portugal.
Mikey Moore helps England seal place in Under-19 Euros
The Young Lions knew they needed to beat Portugal to seal a place in June’s Euro Under-19 finals in Romania, and they got the job done, courtesy of some magic from the Tottenham man.
It did not take long for Mikey Moore to make an impact, with the teenager’s byline delivery being turned home by Sunderland midfielder Chriss Rigg on nine minutes.
The Spurs man also produced a couple of impressive runs in the second half and tested the Portugal goalkeeper but could not find another breakthrough.
While England did have to withstand some late pressure from the away side, in the end, Will Antwi’s men were good value for their 1-0 win.
What are Tottenham’s plans for Moore this summer?
Given that Moore is struggling to get first-team opportunities at Spurs, the North London club will surely be giving serious thought about sending the youngster out on loan.
However, Ange Postecoglou will be wary of the fact that he is only 17 years old and might not want to throw him into the unforgiving atmosphere of lower-league football.
The ideal option would be to transition Moore into a prominent first-team role, much like Manchester City did with Phil Foden without the need for a loan.
