Tottenham tipped to attempt pre-contract agreement in the coming weeks
Tottenham Hotspur have been installed as one of the favourites to sign one England international by journalist Ben Jacobs, who believes that Spurs may have the deal wrapped up before the end of the season.
While a lot has been made about Tottenham Hotspur’s issues upfront and their problems at the back, their shortcomings in the middle of the park have gone under the radar this season.
Many of the club’s senior stars have underperformed and if not for Lucas Bergvall stepping up over recent months, Ange Postecoglou would have had some serious issues.
It thus comes as no surprise that Tottenham are prioritising strengthening in the middle of the park and a number of reports have claimed over recent weeks that Spurs have begun work on signing Angel Gomes from Lille.
Big update on Tottenham’s pursuit of Angel Gomes
The midfielder’s current contract at Lille runs out in June and Tottenham are seemingly ready to pounce, with several outlets claiming that Ange Postecoglou is a big fan of Gomes.
Journalist Ben Jacobs has now become the latest to confirm Spurs’ interest in Gomes, predicting that the England international will end up in the Premier League this season.
He named West Ham and Man United as two other suites for the Lille man, suggesting that the player could even sign a pre-contract agreement ahead of a switch to England.
Jacobs told GiveMeSport: “I would expect that Gomes will be a transfer we see resolved quite quickly into the summer window, if not pre-agreed before it.
“So keep an eye on Spurs. Obviously, we know West Ham are there, but have low confidence of success, and don’t rule out Manchester United entering the race to try and re-sign Gomes.
“But I think at the end of all the offers that he receives, it will be a surprise if we see Gomes outside the Premier League next season.”
West Ham worried about Tottenham’s interest in Gomes
This update from Jacobs comes just a few days after it was reported that West Ham are concerned about losing out to Spurs in the race for Gomes.
The report claimed that the Hammers had failed to agree a pre-contract agreement with the midfielder and are not confident of beating the likes of Tottenham to the player’s services.
