Man Utd now have "ace card" to sign £55m wonderkid, he's better than Geovany
Manchester United will likely make several changes to the squad during the summer transfer window.
The Red Devils have had a disastrous campaign in the Premier League. They have accumulated just 37 points after 29 games.
The club are 13th in the league and could finish in the bottom half of the standings unless there is a significant upturn in form.
Regardless, manager Ruben Amorim is set to be backed with a summer spending spree.
A right wing-back could be signed. Sporting CP’s Geovany Quenda was the top target, but he has agreed to join Chelsea next year.
The Daily Mail now claims that United had scouts at Bangor City to watch Tyler Dibling in action for England Under 19s vs Wales Under 19s.
The Red Devils have already enquired over the Southampton wonderkid, but they are not alone.
Another 13 Premier League clubs are also interested, while there is strong interest from RB Leipzig, Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund.
However, United have ‘an ace card’ in technical director Jason Wilcox, who knows Dibling from his time as Southampton’s director of football.
The 19-year-old could be moulded into a right wing-back under Amorim if Wilcox persuades him to move to Old Trafford this summer.
Dibling would be a fine alternative after Quenda setback
Amorim was reportedly determined to sign Quenda from Sporting. The 40-year-old was responsible for his breakthrough earlier this campaign.
The teenager fared brilliantly in the right wing-back position, and it was suggested that he could secure a similar role with the Red Devils next term.
However, Chelsea nullified United’s plans with a surprise approach. Quenda accepted the proposal and will join the Blues in July 2026.
United need to move on from the 17-year-old. Dibling would be a better signing than Quenda, having already adapted to the league.
The Saints have had a dreadful return to the top flight, but Dibling has been one of the bright spots.
He has played as a striker, an attacking midfielder and a right winger this season. He has been most successful from the right side of the attack.
The Saints graduate has just two goals for his efforts. He has created plenty of chances for his teammates but has been let down by the lack of end product in the box.
Dibling has also done plenty of defensive work for his side. He has tracked back effectively. winning an average of 4.9 duels and making 2.6 recoveries per game.
He has also averaged 1.6 dribbles and 1.2 tackles. Dibling does not shy away from challenges and has picked up six yellow cards.
The England youth international should only get better with age and experience, provided he plays for a team with much better creativity.
Southampton were reluctant to sanction his sale for less than £55 million last winter. Several clubs were willing to pay £40m for him.
With the Saints destined to be relegated, United will hope to negotiate a lower fee for Dibling.
