How Tottenham could ruin Arsenal’s Nico Williams plan this summer

0 6

Arsenal have currently been installed as the favourites to sign Athletic Club Bilbao star Nico Williams, but Tottenham Hotspur may have the power to scupper their North London rivals’ hopes of landing the Spaniard.

Nico Williams has emerged as one of the most exciting young attackers in La Liga over the last couple of years and it appears only a matter of time before the winger makes a step up to one of the elite clubs in Europe.

A fresh report has now suggested that the 22-year-old may be on his way to the Premier League, with Arsenal said to be keen on bringing him to the Emirates Stadium.

However, in a twist of fate, German journalist Christian Falk has explained why Tottenham Hotspur may have a big say on where the Atletico Bilbao man ends up.

How Spurs could ruin Arsenal’s Nico Williams pursuit

Christian Falk explains that Bayern Munich and Arsenal are the two clubs keen on securing Willaims this summer, revealing that it is the Gunners who are leading the race for the winger.

Falk went on to add that Bayern would first have to sell Kingsley Coman before pushing ahead with a move for the Atheltic Club man, thus handing the Gunners an advantage.

This is where Spurs potentially come into play as it has been reported over recent weeks that Bayern are ready to offer Kingsley Coman to Tottenham for a cut-price this summer.

Falk has now told CaughtOffside about Willaims: “It’s not true that Bayern Munich are in the lead for Nico Williams. I think, at the moment, Williams is closer to a move to Arsenal than Bayern Munich, as the Bundesliga club can’t be as concrete as they would like as things currently stand.

“Williams is still very high on the list at Bayern, but Max Eberl, head of sport, has to sell players first. They want to sell Kingsley Coman. If they can manage this, they could take the money and use it to help sign Williams.

“Serge Gnabry is also on the for-sale list, but no club is interested at the moment. So, Bayern have to wait and see if they can make a sale for Coman.”

If Falk’s revelation is true, that means that Spurs can hand Mikel Arteta’s men a massive blow by completing an early deal for Coman, which would in turn allow Bayern to push ahead with an early move for Williams.

What do we know about Totteham’s interest in Kingsley Coman?

Tottenham’s interest in the Frenchman first came to light at the start of this month as it was reported that Spurs are one of four clubs circling over Coman.

The Lilywhites have forged a good relationship with Bayern Munich over recent years, with the two clubs agreeing on deals for Harry Kane, Eric Dier, and most recently, Mathys Tel.

As a result, it has even been suggested over recent weeks that Tottenham can sign Coman for just €30m-€40m as the 28-year-old enters the first year of his contract at the Allianz Arena this June.
