Man Utd now prepared to agree deal for 23-goal star, talks underway with agents
Manchester United have joined Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign one of Ligue 1’s leading strikers, according to Le10 Sport.
The Red Devils have misfired in the final third this season. The club have netted just 37 goals from 29 Premier League matches thus far.
Manager Ruben Amorim may want a new marksman ahead of next season, and Le10 Sport claim that United are hot on the trail of Lille’s Jonathan David.
The Red Devils have joined Arsenal and Spurs in the pursuit. The Premier League trio are in ‘active and concrete negotiations’ with David’s representatives.
The striker is expected to leave on a free transfer when his contract expires on June 30.
David would be a fabulous signing on a free
The Canada international has been hugely consistent for Les Gones over the last few seasons.
He has been linked with a Premier League move for some time, but Lille’s reluctance to negotiate the asking price has contributed to his prolonged stay in Ligue 1.
David has been in superb form this term, registering 23 goals and 10 assists in all competitions.
He has shown his big-game potential, with nine goals and four assists from 14 appearances in the Champions League, including the qualifying games.
The former Genk star has a shot-to-goal conversion rate of 25 percent, significantly higher than Rasmus Hojlund (15 percent) and Joshua Zirkzee (12 percent).
It appears a no-brainer decision to sign him on a free transfer. David may request a high signing-on fee but his wages should be within the affordability range of United.
He earns only £32,000 per week at Lille. £100,000 weekly could be sufficient to sign him. United must move fast to negotiate a pre-contract with Arsenal and Spurs also in the race.
