Bill Chisholm Reveals First Order Of Business After Celtics Sale
William Chisholm is set to be the next majority owner of the Boston Celtics, and the Dartmouth grad knows exactly how he’ll celebrate.
The Grousbeck group Thursday sold the franchise to Chisholm and private equity firm Symphony Technology Group for $6.1 billion, a record sale for any North American sports franchise.
Chisholm grew up in Massachusetts and is a lifelong Celtics fan. It’s those qualities that helped assure Wyc Grousbeck that the team would be in good hands. Chisholm offered his first statement to fans, and he revealed to NBC Sports Boston’s Chris Forsberg that he planned on watching the “Celtics City” docuseries produced by HBO.
“I couldn’t bring myself to watch the documentary because I would’ve just broken my heart, like in part of this process,” Chisholm told Forsberg, per NBC Sports Boston. “So the celebration is we’re starting the documentary. Which for me is crazy because I should’ve watched each episode five, 10 times already, but I held back because I wanted to see where this all ended up.
“I would’ve eventually gotten there and watched it, but now I’m all in.”
“Celtics City” was released this year and chronicles the history of the franchise and its impact on the City of Boston. Chisholm hopes to write a new chapter once the sale is approved by the NBA Board of Governors and once the transition is completed through 2028.
