Tottenham’s Mikey Moore impresses for England U19s despite starting XI snub
Mikey Moore served another reminder of his quality on Wednesday, starring for England’s Under-19 side in their win over Wales.
There is plenty of excitement around Moore at Tottenham and the 17-year-old showed plenty of promise when he was getting a run in the first-team earlier this season.
However, the winger’s season was interrupted by illness, and he has found game time hard to come by since the likes of Brennan Johnson and Wilson Odobert returned from injury.
It remains to be seen if the Spurs academy graduate gets another opportunity this season, but he is continuing to consistently make a case for himself in his performances in youth football.
Mike Moore picks up an assist for England’s Under-19s
Moore marked his return to Tottenham’s Under-21 set-up with a goal against Blackburn Rovers last week.
Now, the teenager has shown his quality for England’s Under-19 side, coming on as a substitute and picking up an assist as they began their European Under-19 Championship qualifying campaign with a 2-0 win over Wales.
Moore played Chelsea’s Shumaira Mheuka into the box with six minutes to go and the forward danced past a few defenders before finishing into the bottom corner to double England’s lead.
The youngster will be hoping that his performances in youth football are catching the eye of Ange Postecoglou and his coaching staff, particularly as Tottenham continue to blow hot and cold in the final third.
Does Mikey Moore deserve more minutes?
Moore may feel that Moore deserves more opportunities, particularly when Tottenham’s big-name forwards are not really setting the world alight.
However, it is important to remember that the winger is still extremely young. Postecoglou may just be trying to ensure he is not exposed to the scrutiny that comes with playing for the first team at this stage of his development.
