David Andrews Provides Candid Thoughts About Patriots Release

The Patriots shockingly released David Andrews last week, and the two-time Super Bowl champion responded in detail Wednesday.

New England owner Robert Kraft sent a touching message to Andrews after the center’s release. The 32-year-old sent out a message on social media, but he hopped on for an “emergency” edition of “The Quick Snap” podcast with Brian Hoyer to express his feelings about his release.

“I definitely respect their decision,” Andrews said. “Do I like it? No. Like I said, I think I could provide value. I was hoping that I could try to play. Just trying to get this ship in the right direction and help the organization and the community.”

Andrews spoke about how excited he was to reunite with Josh McDaniels and play in his system, which he felt his playstyle was a great fit in. However, he also acknowledged that he underwent shoulder surgery last season understanding that the Patriots could move on from him due to his age and injury. His release was still something he could not have imagined.

“I found out earlier that week. You’re a little shocked by it,” Andrews said. “I’ve been so blessed. I’ve had 10 years and never got fired. I was living a pipe dream that I would hopefully make the decision myself. What did Bill (Belichick) say? There’s a light at the end of the tunnel, and you’re hoping it’s not a train, and I was hoping it wasn’t a train, and it was a train. I respect their decision. I still love the organization, still love the community. We’re still here. We don’t have any plans to make any drastic moves right now, just depending on different situations. It is home right now.”

Andrews will remembered as one of the greatest Patriots players of his era. His story from undrafted free agent to one of the best players at his position will remain an inspirational story. But New England decided to move on after reportedly signing his replacement Garrett Bradbury.
