Why MLB Insider Picked Red Sox For This American League Prediction
The Boston Red Sox are extremely improved heading into the 2025 season. They’re a playoff-caliber team for the first time in a few years and they can capitalize.
The American League isn’t exactly strong this year, so if Boston gets into the dance, they can be dangerous in the postseason.
ESPN’s Buster Olney certainly backed the Red Sox in his latest round of season predictions with a heavy emphasis on the star additions Boston needed to make and did make throughout the offseason.
“I’ve got the Boston Red Sox, who did so much to help themselves in the offseason, ” Olney shared on the “Baseball Tonight” podcast Monday. “Trading for Garrett Crochet, trading for Walker Buehler. How many times do you see a team get a No. 1 and a No. 2 in one offseason for the rotation? Alex Bregman for one year … what an addition. I’ve got the Red Sox.”
“It might be a year early for the Red Sox,” ESPN’s David Schoenfield added to Olney’s prediction.
Boston will have tests within the American League East with the New York Yankees and the Baltimore Orioles, but the ballclub is built for the challenge for the first time in years.
