Match Report: AFC Fylde 1-2 Sutton United
It was heartbreak for AFC Fylde who conceded two late goals to fall to defeat against Sutton United.
Fylde led for over 70 minutes, but two goals in the final five minutes of normal time left Fylde with no points to show for their efforts.
Ben Winterbottom was called into action early on after a corner found Ashley Nadesan. The ball was shot low, but was easily scooped up by the Brentford loanee.
But Fylde made the home advantage count soon after as Ethan Mitchell struck the ball perfectly with his left foot into the top left corner of the net from 20 yards out to break the deadlock.
The first half had very little left to offer, the only chance falling to Corey Whelan who saw an effort charged down by the Sutton defence.
As the second half got underway, Tyler Roberts was fouled in the box as the referee pointed to the spot within two minutes of the second 45.
Gavin Massey stepped up but his effort was well kept out by ‘keeper Jack Sims as the scoreline remained 1-0.
Sutton squandered a great chance to equalise soon after, with striker Ashley Nadesan missing an effort from close range.
Ethan Mitchell then went close to doubling his tally for the evening, after great running from Will Hugill saw Mitchell receive the ball on the edge of the area, but his effort bent just around the wrong side of the post.
Sutton continued to push for an equaliser in what felt like a must-win match for the Coasters. But with five minutes to play, Sutton found their goal as Finlay Barbrook snuck the ball under Winterbottom to level things up.
One led to two as Sutton were awarded a penalty moments later, which Davies converted to turn the game on it’s head.
Fylde threw Kain Adom and Ash Boatswain into the mix to try and salvage a point, but it was heartbreak for Fylde who fell to defeat in a game they’d lead for the large majority.
